Chapter 56: Human vs. Beast
Chapter 56: Human vs. Beast
Suddenly, a shout shattered the silence.
"Big brother, big brother, wake up."
Zhou Yuan began to feel a pressing and releasing sensation in his chest, and his mouth was blocked by something, with several streams of air being sent into his trachea.
Zhou Yuan took a breath, then exhaled, and sat up abruptly. He touched his face; his cheeks were wet, and cold sweat streamed down his body.
Zhou Yuan slowly opened his eyes and finally saw Wei Shan. Her pajamas were wrinkled, her figure was curvaceous, and there were still tears on her face.
"Big Brother" Wei Shan suddenly rushed into Zhou Yuan's arms, hugging him tightly with both hands and burying her face in his chest.
"Shanmei, are we not dead? Where's Aya?"
"Aya? Big brother, don't talk nonsense, we're fine. You scared me to death, did you have a nightmare?"
Zhou Yuan cupped Wei Shan's face and wiped away her tears. "Shan, I don't know either. If it's a dream, then this dream feels very real."
"Brother, I had a dream too."
"Really? What did you dream about?"
"I won't say." Zhou Yuan noticed a sudden blush appear on Wei Shan's face.
"Tell me about it," Zhou Yuan said with a smile.
Wei Shan lowered her head and whispered, "I dreamt that we had five babies."
"Aha."
Wei Shan nudged Zhou Yuan. "Don't laugh. By the way, why did you dream about Aya?" Wei Shan looked up at Zhou Yuan.
"Yeah, I dreamt that she turned humans on Earth into zombies, then she chased after us, and then the three of us were killed by a monster."
"Zombie? Monster? What kind of monster?"
"This monster has taken our souls."
"Ah? What happened next?"
"Then the three of us died." Zhou Yuan tried hard to recall the dream, but it seemed to be only fragmented pieces, not very complete.
"Shanmei, why do I have a nightmare that leads to 'sudden death'? There's something strange about this planet."
"Big brother, you're really something else! You scared me to death just now. You slammed your fist on the bed and woke me up. I had to perform emergency resuscitation," Wei Shan said, squirming.
Zhou Yuan smiled and said, "No wonder I felt a few warm currents flowing into my throat."
"You're so mean." Wei Shan punched him again. "Big brother, should we go to the fleet base for a brain scan?"
"No, please! Shanmei, remember, this is our secret."
"Mmm," Wei Shan rested her head against Zhou Yuan's chest, inhaling the masculine scent emanating from him, and couldn't control herself, her face flushing red.
Zhou Yuan hugged Wei Shan tightly, kissed her on the cheek, and looked out the window. The sky outside seemed to be turning white.
"Shanmei, let's go for a walk and breathe in the fresh mountain air."
"Okay, big brother." Wei Shan got up, gave Zhou Yuan a shy kiss on the cheek, and then quickly returned to her bed.
Soon, the two were ready, and Zhou Yuan took out a hair clip from his pocket and put it on Wei Shan.
The two closed the door and left the room. In the corridor, people were already walking out of the palace; they nodded to each other as a greeting.
The sky was already turning white, with glimpses of rosy dawn peeking through the east. High mountain silhouettes and imposing palaces were visible in the distance. The mountain air was fresh and invigorating; Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan took several deep breaths, instantly feeling refreshed.
Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan walked to the main square of the Spirit Palace and were surprised to see nine elders leading a group of elves in meditation. The spires of the square towers surrounding the Spirit Palace buildings were shimmering with a pale blue halo.
The two stopped. Zhou Yuan touched his wrist, and a ring appeared. He began to read the energy. Wow, the ring showed that the energy here was unusually high!
Could it really be that the changes in the surrounding things are caused by the field of thought or consciousness? Zhou Yuan fell into deep thought.
"Brother, let's go. It's not good to bother them here."
"it is good."
The two walked back for a while and saw Lylas leading several humans quickly toward the Incense Palace.
Lylas looked back, overjoyed, and ran to Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan. "Excuse me, gentlemen. There will be an unexpected situation here soon. For your safety, please take shelter in the room of Chenxiang Palace."
"Leras, what happened?" Wei Shan asked, noticing the panic on Lylas's face.
"The Fire Dragon Empire is attacking. Let's go!"
The Fire Dragon Empire? Fire-breathing dragons? The two thought to themselves as they quickly followed Lylas's steps.
A few minutes later, all the humans gathered at the entrance of the Agarwood Palace. Lylas quickly led them into the palace, and each person went to their own room. Then Lylas left, and the heavy doors of the Agarwood Palace slammed shut.
Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan closed the door and exchanged a glance. Food and water were already laid out on the table in the room.
Zhou Yuan quickly moved to the window, craned his neck to look out, but there seemed to be no movement outside, only some elves hurrying by.
"Calling Iron Guard, are you there?" Zhou Yuan called out to the ring.
"Yes, Dean Zhou."
Is there anything unusual about the space surrounding this elven kingdom?
A minute later, Iron Guard reported, "We detected a large flock of eagle-like creatures flying over from the northwest of the Elf Kingdom. They'll be here in about an hour. Let me see, my God, nearly two hundred thousand of them, each one enormous, over thirty meters long."
"Something that looks like an eagle? Is it a dragon?"
"Dean Zhou, we don't know, we've never seen a dragon before."
Zhou Yuan smiled. "Iron Guard, secretly teleport the two of us back."
"Yes."
Without light or electricity, the two were teleported invisibly to an invisible flying saucer above the Elf Kingdom.
"Has Yang Su not returned yet?" Wei Shan asked Tie Wei.
"Sir, Yang Su will not be back at the unit until noon."
"it is good."
Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan looked at the holographic display of the space probe. On the hologram, eagle-like things were moving rapidly in the air. Zhou Yuan magnified the hologram, and various parts of the fire dragon's body appeared: eagle head, deer antlers, rabbit eyes, ox ears, snake neck, mirage belly, fish scales, eagle claws, bat wings, and a huge, bulging belly.
"Big brother, can the elves handle so many fire dragons?"
"I don't know. Those elves meditating in the square are probably preparing for battle. Iron Guard, notify the other three flying saucers to be ready for covert combat at any time."
"clear."
"Big brother, look!" Zhou Yuan and Tie Wei looked at the hologram, seemingly stunned.
Near the space of this elven mountain kingdom, 20,000 eagles gathered from all directions, each carrying two or three elves. These elves were likely reinforcements from other elven kingdoms.
Ten kilometers from the Elven Mountain Kingdom, a large group of orcs were rushing towards the location of the Elven Mountain Kingdom.
On a vast grassland about five or six kilometers from here, on the only road leading to the Elven Mountain Kingdom, a large human army had already set up its formation, with the clanging of iron armor and the constant neighing of warhorses.
Zhou Yuan, Wei Shan, and the others watched all this in astonishment. This was the first time they had ever seen a world war in a primitive society, with the opposing sides being an alliance of elves and humans and an alliance of fire dragons and beastmen.
"Fleet base, immediately dispatch a batch of warships and flying saucers to support me," Zhou Yuan urgently called on the Alpha Fleet and the 19th Fleet.
"Okay, I'll be there in ten minutes."
Before long, a Tiancan-class sniper ship, five Tianlang-class sniper ships, three thousand town-class escort ships, and ten thousand flying saucers gathered around Zhou Yuan.
Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan were teleported to the Tian Shen sniper ship, where they served as the commanders of this small fleet.
A reddish hue appeared in the eastern sky, and a huge red sphere leaped above the horizon, though the sunlight was still very weak.
The elven reinforcements' eagles had reached the skies above the High Mountain Kingdom. These eagles circled and glided downwards, and a group of elves jumped off their backs. These elves did not disturb their compatriots who were meditating in the square, but quickly set up crossbows and rockets near the various palaces and arranged various defensive formations.
On the human side, thirty massive catapults were already positioned at the front line, with rows and rows of shields forming a defensive formation. Spears were pointed outwards, and archers, crossbowmen, and artillerymen were ready inside. Heavy infantry were positioned in the center of the formation, with a certain distance between each column. The cavalry detachments on both flanks of the main human force marched proudly and imposingly.
A great battle was about to begin, and the atmosphere was filled with a chilling atmosphere. Even the birds hid deep in the forests on the mountain.
An hour later, the orcs reached a point some distance from the front of the human army's lines, halted their advance, and the two armies faced off.
The orcs brandished their greatswords and spears, roaring in unison that echoed through the sky, no less powerful than the war drums.
The orc leader waved his hand, and the orcs in the front row drew their bows and released a volley of arrows into the air. The arrows drew an arc in the air before plummeting down. Because the two armies were still quite far apart, many of the orcs' arrows missed their mark. Only a small number of powerful arrows landed in the human camp and were blocked by the human shields.
Suddenly, war drums sounded on the human side, the drumbeats were deafening, banners fluttered, and battle horns blared.
The catapults were activated, launching dozens of massive, flaming stones. These fireballs left trails of smoke as they streaked across the sky, plummeting rapidly under the force of gravity and landing in the middle of the orc camp. These flaming stones instantly killed hundreds of orcs. After landing, the fireballs continued their momentum, rolling rapidly on the ground and crushing or burning many more orcs. These thirty flaming stones alone wiped out nearly two thousand orcs.
Humans are preparing to drop a second batch of stones.
With a wave of his hand, the orcish army accelerated and charged towards the human army.
As the second wave of catapult attacks arrived, the orcs quickly dodged and moved aside to avoid the flaming stone attacks, observing the direction in which the stones were falling.
Five minutes later, both sides entered crossbow range, and the human and orc armies exchanged crossbow bolts. In the sky above the grassland, two dark raindrops fell towards each other, and some arrows collided in the air and fell together.
Orcs are energetic, strong, and fast runners. They shoot arrows as they run, while humans take turns shooting arrows as soon as one group finishes. The new group immediately reloads and fires, taking turns under the cover of shields.
The orcs' simple rattan armor shields were no match for the human iron armor shields. Judging from the crossbow fire, the orcs suffered many casualties, while the human casualties were not many.
However, the orcs numbered nearly a million, while the human faction on this side numbered only around one hundred thousand.
