Chapter 55: Like a Dream
Chapter 55: Like a Dream
"Big brother, save me!" Wei Shan screamed desperately.
"Shanmei, where are you?" Zhou Yuan looked around anxiously. The forest was pitch black, and with the faint starlight, Zhou Yuan ran quickly toward the direction of Wei Shan's cries for help.
"I am here."
"Don't move, I'm coming."
"careful!"
Just as Zhou Yuan took a step forward, with a "whoosh," a rope snare descended from above, suspending Zhou Yuan upside down by the feet.
Zhou Yuan saw that Wei Shan was also hanging upside down by a rope. "Shan-mei, are you alright?" Zhou Yuan asked with a sob in his voice.
"I'm fine. Brother, how are you?"
"I'm okay."
Just as the two were gripped by terror, they vaguely saw a group of creatures slowly approaching in the distance. When they looked closer, they were startled – a group of human zombies!
These human zombies, with their bared fangs and expressionless faces, looked terrifying and chilling under the starlight. Upon seeing the two, the zombies quickly moved closer.
Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan kicked their legs hard, trying to kick off the ropes on their feet, but it was no use.
"Brother, I don't want to die yet. I want to be with you forever."
"Shanmei, I love you."
"I love you too."
The two closed their eyes, preparing to die.
"This girl is pretty good, with delicate skin and tender flesh. She'll definitely taste good when you nibble on her."
"Let's get back as soon as possible, so as not to delay our master's important business."
Upon hearing their master's name, the zombies' expressionless faces seemed to undergo a strange change, displaying an expression of fear.
The zombies quickly put Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan down, tied their hands tightly together, one in front of the other, and then put two hoods over their heads. One zombie led the two of them, while the others followed to the side.
About half an hour later, Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan felt a sudden brightness before their eyes as the hood was removed. After their dizziness subsided and their eyes adjusted to the light, the two looked around carefully and first saw two pretty girls standing beside them, about seventeen or eighteen years old, with their hair tied in ponytails, bowing respectfully in a waiting posture.
Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan rolled their eyes. The room was quite large and antique-style. In the middle of the room was a rectangular metal box, or more accurately, a metal coffin. Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan exchanged a blank look.
"Little sister, where is this place?" Wei Shan asked cautiously.
The two girls remained motionless, standing respectfully without uttering a single word.
Zhou Yuan gave Wei Shan a wink, signaling her to step back.
Zhou Yuan took a step forward. "Little sister, your master must be an ugly monster, why hasn't he come yet?"
As soon as Zhou Yuan finished speaking, a figure in pale purple flashed through the curtain. "Zhou Yuan, are you looking for death? That coffin is for you."
"Aya?!" Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan were both taken aback. However, this Aya wasn't one meter tall, but rather 1.7 meters. Aya winked at the two girls, who wisely left.
Zhou Yuan rubbed his eyes. "Am I dreaming? Aya, what are you doing here? Where are the humans from Earth?"
"Humans from Earth? Haha, those were the zombies who were leading you two around just now!"
"What?" Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan almost fainted.
"Aya, stop joking, what's going on?"
"You really forgot?"
Zhou Yuan nodded repeatedly, his mind a complete mess.
"Zhou Yuan, you ungrateful bastard! You're so wicked! You actually dumped her and eloped with Wei Shan." Aya kept hitting Zhou Yuan's body with her hands, tears streaming down her face.
Zhou Yuan turned to look at Wei Shan, and Wei Shan looked at Zhou Yuan.
"Okay, Aya, tell me what happened?"
"In order to be with Wei Shan, you want to revise the Replicated Life Form Act, saying that the Empire should allow replicated life forms to freely love, marry, and reproduce, while the Empire's humans do not allow it. So you use sweet words to trick her into helping you, saying that after the matter is successful, you will give me a human body, and then we can be together forever."
"How can I help you?"
"You wanted me to alter all human consciousness data, and then I conspired with Gaia to have Gaia use the moon to screen human genetic weapons and wipe out all of humanity on Earth. Humanity on Earth urgently replicated life, but their consciousness had been altered, so they became a group of soulless zombies."
"A soulless zombie?"
"Yes. You still have a conscience, preparing human bodies for me and Gaia. Who knew you and Wei Shan would elope? I searched everywhere for you, and finally caught you two."
“Aya, stop. The computational consciousness of artificial intelligence is completely different from the consciousness of the human brain. It is impossible for it to implant your electronic consciousness into a human body.”
"You naughty boy, you're the one who said, 'Anything is possible!'"
"Miss Aya, how did Zhou Yuan transplant your consciousness into a human body?"
"I don't know either. Humph, Wei Shan, it's all your fault!"
After saying that, Aya stretched out her right hand and grabbed Wei Shan in mid-air. Zhou Yuan quickly stepped forward to stop her, but Aya pushed him with her left hand, and Zhou Yuan was violently thrown out, crashing into the wall and unable to stand up for a moment.
Aya, with a grip on Wei Shan's throat, walked step by step toward the metal coffin. Wei Shan struggled violently, pulling hard on her neck with both hands, as if trying to pull away the invisible "hand" gripping her throat.
"Shanmei!" Zhou Yuan struggled to his feet and limped toward Wei Shan, his right hand outstretched as if to grab her.
"Big...brother...I..." Wei Shan said weakly, her eyes gradually turning white.
Aya pushed open the metal coffin lid with her left hand. She then lifted Wei Shan above the coffin, and with a flick of her wrist, Wei Shan fell inside.
Just as Aya closed the coffin lid, Zhou Yuan, who had already walked up to Aya, accelerated and sprinted, violently ramming his body into Aya. Aya cried out, and Zhou Yuan also cried out. The two fell into the coffin one after the other, and the coffin lid slammed shut with a bang. The three of them were plunged into darkness, with only a sliver of light leaking in through the cracks in the coffin.
After Zhou Yuan fell, he felt his body being held tightly, and his lower body felt soft, while his right hand also felt soft.
"Big brother, are you alright?" Wei Shan asked with concern.
"You brat, get your stinky hands off me."
Zhou Yuan quickly withdrew his right hand, rolled to the right, broke free from Wei Shan's embrace, and lay down between the two of them.
Zhou Yuan used both hands to support the coffin lid and tried to move it to both sides, but the coffin lid seemed to be sealed shut, so Zhou Yuan had no choice but to stop.
The three of them remained silent, a silence that was almost eerie, as if there was no sound even outside.
Suddenly, the three felt a pressure on their backs. Wei Shan and Aya both gasped, seemingly startled, and instinctively clung tightly to Zhou Yuan. Zhou Yuan knew the coffin was rising. Although he was embraced by two beautiful women, Zhou Yuan dared not be presumptuous, but silently counted, beginning to calculate the time.
The three dared not speak, letting the coffin carry them along.
When Zhou Yuan counted to about 13,000, the coffin seemed to stop moving and did not rise.
"Good lad, you're quite the ladies' man." Suddenly, a sinister voice rang out, and Wei Shan and Aya hugged Zhou Yuan even tighter.
"Who are you?" Zhou Yuan shouted at the coffin box.
"Who am I? You've stumped me. I don't know who I am either."
Zhou Yuan coughed lightly, "Can you let us out?"
"Let you out? Don't even dream about it. I'm going to eat you all!"
Upon hearing the word "cannibalism," the two beautiful women clung even tighter to Zhou Yuan, their faces pressed against his, making it difficult for him to breathe.
"Eat us? How can you eat us if you don't let us out?"
"Haha, ignorant humans!" Everything around was quiet, without echo or sound, except for the breathing of the three people and that loud laughter.
"Humans are so ignorant. Do they think eating you means eating your bodies? Haha, I want to eat your souls, which means seizing your consciousness!"
"Ah!" The three were shocked. The thought of those walking corpses made them tremble.
"why?"
"For no reason?" the voice became eerie, "because consciousness is the master of this world."
The three were dumbfounded. Consciousness is the master of this world? This was a profound statement, and the three said they didn't understand.
Seemingly noticing the three's silence, the voice spoke again: "You can download, store, and transplant your consciousness into a new body, so why can't your consciousness leave the storage device, body, or other host and exist independently in this world?"
The three were secretly startled. This monster seemed to be the worm in their stomachs, knowing everything about their situation.
"What exactly is consciousness, or rather, soul?" Zhou Yuan couldn't help but wonder.
"You humans have this concept of 'out-of-body experiences,' you'll see if you try it."
As soon as she finished speaking, Aya let out a painful scream, her legs kicked out, and she clutched her head with her hands, as if something had flown out of her brain.
"Stop, you monster!" Zhou Yuan bent down and pressed down on Aya's hands to stop her from grabbing her head.
Suddenly, Wei Shan cried out in pain. Zhou Yuan quickly released Aya and pressed Wei Shan down with both hands.
Aya and Weishan seemed to have gone mad, their legs braced against the bottom of the coffin, their hands simultaneously pounding violently against their heads, as if there were some monster inside them that they wanted to punch out.
Zhou Yuan quickly lay down, spread his arms wide, and slid them across their waists, pressing their hands tightly behind their heads.
The two men struggled fiercely, kicking their thighs and trying to move their hands away, but Zhou Yuan pressed his palms tightly against the bottom of the coffin, gritted his teeth, and held their hands down firmly.
"Big brother, I'm about to die, let go." Wei Shan's weak voice came, and every word struck Zhou Yuan's heart heavily.
"No!" Zhou Yuan roared, "You can't leave! What will I do if you leave?"
"Zhou Yuan, let go. Wei Shan and I will keep you company." Aya said weakly.
"Hey, hey, wake up!" Zhou Yuan shook the two of them, feeling their bodies getting cold.
Zhou Yuan quickly pried open their eyelids and, using the light from the crack in the coffin, noticed that their pupils were contracting and that each of them had a tear hanging on their cheek.
Suddenly, Zhou Yuan clutched his head, as if something was trying to burst out of his mind. He tried his best to recall Wei Shan and Aya's beautiful faces, and everything he had shared with them. In a daze, Zhou Yuan saw two spheres emitting halos in the air. He could vaguely see Wei Shan and Aya inside the spheres, their faces flushed, waving at him. Zhou Yuan stretched out his hands, holding Wei Shan's hand with his left and Aya's with his right. The three halos merged into one, and the larger halo slowly rose.
With a single move, the monster caused the large halo to gradually shrink before being sucked into a box until it disappeared.
Inside the coffin, Zhou Yuan kicked his legs a few times and stopped breathing.
