Under the moonlight

Chapter 131 Eavesdropping

Chapter 131 Eavesdropping

Nothing happened overnight. The next morning, when Huang Meng opened the door, Li Shuo also opened the door. "Your face..." Huang Meng looked at Li Shuo's face in surprise.

"Yeah, it's swollen. I'm going to find Old Huang for some medicine." Li Shuo was quite calm and didn't seem to care about Huang Meng's surprise. "Where are you going? Want to come along?" He turned to Huang Meng as he passed by and asked.

"Um, I'm also going to find Lao Huang, let's go together." Huang Meng looked at Li Shuo's calm face but couldn't help asking, "What happened to your face? It's so red and swollen, are you having an allergic reaction?"

"No, well, sort of, sigh~" Li Shuo had a bitter pill to swallow. He couldn't very well tell Huang Meng that he had been in close contact with those things that looked like corpse ashes!

The two men walked to Lao Huang's room. The door was ajar, but they still followed the proper precautions and knocked. "Who is it?" Lao Huang asked from inside. During this special period, it was generally not allowed for others to enter or leave the room at will.

“It’s me, Huang Meng,” Huang Meng quickly replied.

"Okay, wait a moment!" Old Huang said from inside. After a while, a soft rustling sound could be heard. Soon, Old Huang came out and peeked out from the crack in the door, looking at Huang Meng and Li Shuo outside. "What brings you here?"

"Um, I'd like to see how Chen Che is doing?" Huang Meng said with a smile.

“He’s doing very well, much better now, no need to worry. What about you? Is there anything I can help you with?” Old Huang looked at Li Shuo through his glasses.

"I have some unknown substance on my face. Is there any medicine I can apply to reduce the swelling?"

"Okay, I'll look for it." After saying that, Lao Huang closed the door again. Huang Meng looked at the closed door and couldn't help but sigh.

"This is all for our own good, don't worry," Li Shuo said softly, standing beside Huang Meng.

"Here, take this twice a day, and avoid getting it wet." Old Huang tossed the medicine to Li Shuo and closed the door again.

"But speaking of which, how come this old doctor isn't afraid of getting infected?" Li Shuo muttered, looking at the ointment in his hand.

“It’s not that he’s not afraid, but he has no choice. He’s a doctor, and doctors have a compassionate heart. The first thing he’s excluded from consideration is his own life.” Huang Meng finished speaking and turned to leave. Li Shuo followed behind. The two walked in silence until they reached the door. Huang Meng suddenly realized something, turned around, and walked up to Li Shuo. She stared at his face for a long time. “Why is your face allergic?” She looked at Li Shuo’s face, which was red and swollen. There were no red spots or rashes on the surface. It looked like it had been rubbed too hard, just like when she scrubbed herself too hard in the bath and broke her skin.

"Um, well, it's just an allergic reaction. The sheets in this room aren't clean." Li Shuo suddenly felt a little nervous when he saw Huang Meng staring at his face.

"Really?" Huang Meng was not sure at first, but seeing his sudden tension, she immediately became certain that this guy had something on his mind!

"Okay, then you go in and apply the medicine first!" Huang Meng had an idea in mind.

"Okay, sure." Li Shuo breathed a sigh of relief as he watched Huang Meng walk to his door and quickly pushed the door open to go inside.

Huang Meng had only been in the room a short while when she quietly opened the door and knocked on Jiang Ying's door. "Shh, let me in," Huang Meng whispered to Jiang Ying as she opened the door.

Jiang Ying looked at Huang Meng, who squeezed into her room, with suspicion. "What are you doing? Didn't I tell you not to visit other people's rooms? Why are you all breaking the rules?" Jiang Ying looked at Huang Meng with some helplessness. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call them troublemakers.

“I always felt that there was something wrong with Li Shuo.”

What problem could he possibly have?

"I feel it. This morning his face was all red and swollen, as if it had been rubbed hard. How could someone who cherishes his appearance so much bear to treat his face so roughly?"

"Um, I don't know about that."

Huang Meng began pacing around her room. "Allergy? It's not an allergy at all. Something must have happened after I went to sleep last night," Huang Meng muttered to herself as she walked.

"If you don't agree, just ask him directly!" Jiang Ying said, crossing her arms and looking at Huang Meng.

“That’s the suspicious part. I asked him, and he said it was because the sheets were not clean. You also said that after the outbreak of the plague, the entire embassy was thoroughly disinfected, including every room. How could he have an allergic reaction? It’s obviously just something he said offhand.”

After thinking for a while, Jiang Ying understood why Huang Meng was so sure he was hiding something. "There's no need to lie about just an allergy, so it can only mean that it was caused by something else."

As soon as Jiang Ying finished speaking inside the room, they heard faint rustling sounds in the corridor. The two of them quickly fell silent and quietly approached the door. Then they heard a knock on Xu Ao's door, but the sound was very low. A little further away, they heard a knock on Zhao Meng's door.

Jiang Ying and Huang Meng looked at each other, wondering what these three grown men were up to.

The two listened carefully for a while longer, and sure enough, first Xu Ao's door opened and then closed, then Zhao Meng's door, and finally Li Shuo's door closed. There were only a few of them on this floor, and the other colleagues were on the third floor. Jiang Ying and Huang Meng were together. Who else could there be besides the three of them?

"Huang Meng, that... your relative, is he... normal?" Jiang Ying asked suddenly, noticing the silence in the corridor and looking at Huang Meng's suspicious expression.

"Well, if you ask me now, I really don't know. Anyway, I've never had a girlfriend and I really dislike blind dates." Huang Meng recalled the conversation between their two families, and any trust she had in him had completely vanished.

"Then tell me, would a normal man be...?" Jiang Ying didn't finish her sentence before making a bending gesture towards Huang Meng.

"Well, I'm not entirely sure either," Huang Meng said somewhat guiltily. Although she shouldn't doubt Xu Ao, their deepest contact was only kissing, and who knew if he was bisexual!

"Hey, let's go listen and we'll find out." Huang Meng suddenly had this idea. They'd understand the situation as soon as they heard it.
