Chapter 6 Lies
Chapter 6 Lies
Aaron still doesn't know if Brianna remembered his name back then.
Aaron only told the others in the castle about the Duchess's death when Brianna's hands were completely cold.
The burly knight who brought Aaron locked Aaron in a room, seemingly suspecting the cause of his master's death.
After confirming that Brianna had indeed died of natural causes, Aaron's restrictions on his freedom were finally lifted.
However, Aaron has a different opinion on Brianna's death diagnosis. Did Brianna really die of natural causes?
If Brianna hadn't been harmed by the curse, she might have lived to be eighty.
Leaving aside distant examples, let's just say that Aaron hadn't come...
Brianna will not drink large amounts of energy potions, nor will she mobilize dark power to cast the curse again.
Aaron hastened Brianna's death; that is an undeniable fact.
If the knight concludes that Aaron is guilty, it's hard to say whether it's a frame-up or not.
In short, Aaron did not listen to Brianna and stayed in the Lorraine Plains for seven days.
Aaron did not get back into the carriage until the funeral was over and Brianna was buried in the family cemetery.
During this time, Aaron attempted to investigate Brianna's usual activities in the castle.
Unfortunately, there is no direct evidence to prove that Brianna remembers Aaron's name.
At the funeral, Aaron was granted special permission to stand in the front row, flanked by Brianna's direct relatives.
Aaron had not spoken to these people, and he had no interest in Brianna's social connections.
He was simply wondering how Brianna viewed herself, and what emotions she felt as she recalled her birth name, Seventy-Three, on her deathbed.
Aaron and Brianna had known each other for forty-two or forty-three years, and he had seen Brianna in her childhood, youth, and old age.
But this period of time was not long for Aaron, so his feelings for Brianna did not have time to change.
But what was Brianna thinking?
Brianna expressed gratitude directly to Aaron, but if it were just gratitude, she wouldn't be so fixated on the name Seventy-Three.
Perhaps she should have been more direct, so that Aaron would have known whether she harbored other feelings.
Forget it, the person is dead, it doesn't matter anymore.
Aaron will remember her for a while, maybe a long time, maybe a short time.
He carried books and scrolls, boarded the carriage that Brianna had prepared for him before her death, and returned to the forbidden library.
He spent a total of eighteen days away from home on this trip.
It was hot in the summer, and there was no tall vegetation on the promontory. The sun shone directly on Aaron, urging him to quicken his pace.
Upon arriving at the library, Aaron was surprised to find a figure dozing in the shade of a corner.
He was a young man who looked about seventeen or eighteen years old. His thick black hair curled up to his ears, and he was wearing an old but clean and refreshing linen outfit. However, his sandals looked a bit tattered, with two straps broken.
When did this young man start hiding here? Who knows…
Aaron didn't pay any attention, and simply took out his key and opened the library door.
Perhaps startled by the sound of the door opening, the young man shuddered and suddenly opened his eyes, only to see Aaron pushing open the door and entering the building.
He then hurriedly followed and pushed the door open to enter.
Just then, Aaron discovered that the "List of Forbidden Books" had changed again:
[Borrower, Serial Number II]
[Name: Henry Gijano Panza]
[Compatible with the banned book: Stars, Moon, Night, and Enchantment]
Level of understanding: Not read
[Borrowing Time: Not borrowed]
[Return Date: Not borrowed]
Aaron was taken aback, quite surprised.
He had just retrieved the forbidden book he lent to Brianna, thinking that it would be at least a hundred years before the next suitable person arrived.
Unexpectedly, the connection was so smooth that Aaron had just returned when borrower "II" came knocking on his door.
Aaron stopped and turned back to re-examine the young man.
He was slender and clean-cut. Although he couldn't compare to Aaron, he was still quite handsome, and he was even taller than Aaron, standing at six feet three inches.
His skin is bronze, likely due to prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, but it could also be natural.
However, this young man named Henry seemed to be somewhat shy.
He didn't dare to meet Aaron's gaze, and after being stared at by Aaron for a while, he actually lowered his head in embarrassment.
Aaron smiled gently, and with the professionalism of a librarian, bowed to the visitor and inquired:
"Sir, how may I help you?"
Henry then raised his head, looking at Aaron's face uneasily, his eyes darting around.
After a moment, he spoke hesitantly:
"Um, my name is Henry Gijano Panza."
At least he didn't give a false name.
"Mr. Gihano, my name is Aaron Mosley."
"Mr. Mosley, are you the boss here... I mean, the librarian..."
"Yes, that's me," Aaron nodded.
Henry grinned upon hearing this.
"Ha! It's true! I've heard people say that knowledge can change one's destiny!"
Aaron smiled: "That man is absolutely right."
He paused, then pointed to the stool next to the teak table:
"Mr. Gihano, I've just returned to the library and have some things to take care of, so please wait a moment."
"Yes, Mr. Mosley... Oh! Just call me Henry!"
Aaron smiled, nodded, and turned to walk away.
He now has two things: a book and a painting.
After putting the book back on the shelf and putting away the painting, Aaron could then focus entirely on the second borrower.
The bed in "Omiros Riddell's Notebooks" is a bookshelf on the ground floor, and the painting in hand is a decorative piece, which is suitable for display in the hall.
Therefore, considering it was convenient, Aaron decided to hang the painting first.
In the center of the hall, looking around, he saw the full-length mirror.
The girl in the painting used to love standing in front of the mirror and admiring herself, so hanging it next to the mirror might be a good choice.
After hanging it up, Aaron stepped back a few paces to get a better look.
Yes, it's perfect!
The oil painting was exquisite and vivid; in an instant, he seemed to return to that afternoon more than forty years ago... when they first met.
The corners of his mouth involuntarily relaxed and turned up.
Just then, he heard a voice:
"Oh! This is Brianna!"
Aaron glanced in the direction of the sound and looked into the mirror.
The mirror reflected her own image, but her posture was completely different from Aaron's.
The person in the mirror rests their elbow on their clean chin, faces the direction of the painting, and squints as they examine it.
Aaron ignored him, refocused on admiring the painting.
That mirror is a magical item; it possesses its own consciousness.
Whenever He was alone with Aaron, He would try to talk to His master.
Now they are separated from Henry by bookshelves, which is no different from being alone.
Aaron disliked this mirror because it was full of lies, hence the name "Mirror of Lies."
However, as a way to pass the time, this mirror was quite suitable, so Aaron had not disposed of it for over a thousand years.
The mirror, gazing at Brianna's oil painting, suddenly nodded:
"Yes, this painting depicts Brianna standing before me for the first time."
Aaron was drawn to that question: "You remember?"
"Of course, a mirror isn't a person and won't forget with time," said the person in the mirror. "This expression is definitely Brianna from back then, but the clothes and skin have definitely been beautified."
At that moment, the word "beauty" popped into Aaron's mind, and he thought that Brianna was indeed a girl.
The person in the mirror looked at Aaron and suddenly asked, "You've been gone for so long. Judging from the knight's words, and now you've brought back this painting, you went to see Brianna, didn't you? Is she alright?"
Aaron did not answer, but his face was gloomy.
Upon seeing this, the person in the mirror immediately laughed: "So that's it, she's dead!"
then……
Damn!
What a wicked mirror! What a lying mirror!
Aaron shouldn't have paid any attention to it, he absolutely shouldn't have.
After noticing Aaron's thoughts, He told Aaron something.
Aaron wouldn't believe it.
I absolutely do not believe it.
This is a lying mirror; it only lies.
This is definitely a lie.
The mirror said that Brianna asked Him that day:
"Aaron...do you still remember me?"
